Nuner Student Council Rocked the Kroc Gardens!

Our Unity Garden is alive and well thanks to dedicated students from Nuner Primary Center in South Bend! These high achieving student council members are 2nd through 4th grade students with a knack for making small things grow!  With the help and expertise from Sara and Mitch, our friendly Unity Garden helpers, they planted many little seeds in April.  As the baby plants got bigger and bigger, excitement grew for the day we could finally give them a forever home at the Kroc Center.

Yay Teamwork!

Yay Teamwork!

Today finally arrived, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather!  21 eager gardeners were ready to turn the dirt into living soil.  It was a joyful experience to watch everyone cooperate, have fun, and get dirty!  Even better, these kids helped create a sustainable dietary option for neighborhood residents-community gardens are a great way to provide extra veggies during the summer!

We planted:

The next time you are at the Kroc Center, don’t forget to stop by the garden and show our seedlings a little love!

  1. A great day had by all! A huge thanks goes out to Libby Unruh for the many hours of dedicated work she does for our South Bend Community. The Numer Student Council could not have served the community as well without Libby’s inspiration. Thanks for a rewarding day!

  2. The Nuner student council members just read your blog. They are thrilled!! They would like to take this time to thank everyone at the Kroc Center for letting us come for a visit!

    • I’m so glad they were here! I will keep everyone updated on how the seedlings are getting along throughout the summer. And they can all come back to visit any time!
