The Christmas holidays are an exceptionally busy time for us at The Salvation Army! Given that I didn’t post for a full 6 weeks from November 17th to December 31st, it may have seemed I had checked out.
In reality, things were buzzing along so quickly I thought my head would spin right off. Here are a few things we accomplished in that short amount of time:
843 families received a Christmas meal, including a Christmas ham, and other staple items
- This means we fed 3220 people for Christmas and the accompanying school break!
150 families received gifts through our Adopt A Family program
- Community groups and businesses generously provided Christmas gifts for 460 children!
613 families received gifts through our Toy Shop
- Guardian Angels across our community provided basic necessities including coats, warm clothing, and linens for 1424 children!
- The Marines donated toys for 1199 children through the Toys for Tots program!
Thanks to the generosity of many people in our community, The Salvation Army was able to distribute a total of 13,025 gifts to children and their families in St. Joseph County! Though the holidays are often chaotic and stressful for those of us working in this field, it’s an amazing feeling to know that we were able to share Christ’s love with many families that would not have otherwise had much to celebrate.
With these numbers, you may imagine that it takes many Christmas elves to make sure everything works without a hitch…In fact, 269 volunteers donated 1592 hours of precious time to these programs.
If at any time you would like to enlist in our volunteer army, don’t hesitate!! Contact us now 🙂
Special THANKS for those in the community with a special involvement in our Christmas Programs:
